Having problems with my templates?

>> Browse templatesMoney tips127 comments

I've noticed that some people who have been using my templates face some little bugs, mostly with alignment. When creating these templates, I have, at my best, tried to make sure that they're all bugs free and I have the tested version in the demo pages in IE and Firefox. So, carefully check the demo pages. But I surely can't control all the loose bugs flying off here and there in little places.

If I do find these bugs, I'll deal with them in two ways. First, I'll correct them by upgrading the template into a newer version and post it as a new template (with maybe some little changes on the template look that you can always change back easily later on). So, if you have these little problems, do check back in here to see the updated version or tell me about the problem in the comment section.

Second, I plan to make a short tutorial on how to go about designing and tweaking your Blogger template. I'll probably have them done in a couple of week or so, so do check on these to start fiddling with CSS your own way.

Some of the problems:

Most of them have their header section cut off that only a portion of the image shows up. If this is the case, most probably it's because you're using a template that has a Linkbar but you forgot to fill in the URLs. One other thing is probably you're using a template that requires you to put up your own header image, but you forgot to do so. In these cases, my advice is you have to read that template instructions carefully.

There are also some who have a problem with their footer background - it was cut short. Some of templates have the black-gray shade background in the footer. I was thinking that most footer is not very long vertically, so I made the background graphics to be relatively short. But I saw that some people using my templates have long footer that the background graphics is cut short and changes to the 'actual' background; mostly dark green. There are 2 solutions to these. If you know how to use the HTML code, point the background URL to a new background that lays out farther downward. The second solution is to make the 'actual' background blend with the black-gray shade; simply use the Fonts and Colors option in the Layout page to do this.

There are also some that have their sidebar text overlapping with the sidebar header. In my demo pages, I've made sure that this overlapping doesn't happen. But if they do happen in your case, I suggest you move the sidebar text further down from it's header (only it won't look the way it's suppose to look). I'll start putting up small tutorials on how to tweak your template, so check back in here to read these tutorials to tweak your template.

Hey there, I just want to thank you for the very nice blog templates. I have had difficulty looking for really good templates for the new blogger in the past. Im glad I found this site. I installed your template in my online job site Jobzonline . Many thanks.

OBT May 29, 2007 7:13 pm

Thanks rhodilee...good to know these templates are useful for bloggers. I saw your site and I think you haven't uploaded your header image and filled in the linkbar. Right now the header is cut off.

Miss Little Piggy May 31, 2007 2:46 pm

Hello Elque, I am still on the lookout for the best header image for my site. I shall give you a buzz as soon as I have one so you can see how the template looks like.

Unknown June 16, 2007 12:14 pm

Hi
How do you show Backlinks in your template?
Tks

OBT June 16, 2007 6:42 pm

hi gambande,
i'm not really sure about backlinks. is it the same as 'links to this post' as shown in the comment section as at he bottom? if that's that, then simply go to the layout page - page element - and click the 'links to this post' button inside the blog posts editor. If backlink is not that, then I'll have to figure it out myself what it is. hopefully it is though...

Unknown June 16, 2007 11:43 pm

Hi Elque
Thanks for the help. Its ok, is the LINKS TO THIS POST link. But its not working in your template.
Could you give me the code of the template of your blog to figure if there is something wrong? Only the parts where the "backlinks" label are. (I think there are 3 differents sections in the code where "backlinks" appear.

Unknown June 16, 2007 11:44 pm

As a verification you can see my blog at http://48s.blogspot.com
The LINKS TO THIS POST box is selected.

OBT June 17, 2007 3:05 am

Gambande,
I saw your blog, and it looks that the links to this post shows up as 'vinculos' isn't it? Right now the links are empty. The links will show up only if some other posts are linked to your post. Try make a test post that links to that post. Right now the appearance of 'links to this post' is by default the same as the 'comment' section. But if you want to customize that further, I haven't really coded that in my template. I'll see in my future templates how to code this part. Thanks.

Unknown June 17, 2007 9:31 am

Thank you very much, problem is clarified and there are no problems. I made a link to another posts and is working.
Only I would like that LINKS appear in the main page, now there is only in the post-page. But don't worry, I only want to know if somebody is linking to me, no matter where LINKS appears.
Thank you again.

Hi, Elque
I've just detected another problem. My blog, done with your template, have problems when you see it with Firefox.
If you try it with IE and Firefox, you will see the difference (is in the sidebar to the right)
Could you help me to fix it?
Thank you
My blog is http://48s.blogspot.com
Gambande

OBT June 22, 2007 4:49 am

Gambande,
The problem is the sidebar doesn't fit the content-wrapper so it's pushed down.

Try this:
Locate your main-wrapper code. You'll see the code setting the width of the main wrapper. Try reduce this width 1px each time until you see the sidebar comes up again. Right now it's set at 600px. Try if this works.

Unknown June 22, 2007 10:47 am

Do you mean reduce? or increase?

OBT June 22, 2007 12:37 pm

Gambande,
Reduce so that there's enough space on the right for the sidebar.

Hi, First of all, kudos to you for such a nice collection of templates. I started using redhoax
http://dzelque.blogspot.com/2007/05/blogger-template-redhoax.html

It seems to have couple of little bugs.
1.
When you add new page elements to sidebar (the one, just beside the content/post), they appear correctly in Firefox but they mess up in IE.

2.
Though demo of above template shows Google Ads at the beginning of post but there isn't Page Element holder visible when you try to edit page elements in Blogger.

Otherwise, its a great template.

I really dont want to go for any other template because I keep coming back to redhoax template everytime. Can it be fixed?

It seems to work fine in firefox

OBT June 27, 2007 2:28 am

Digital Legs,

I'll improve the Redhoax template as a new template. Probably in a week or so. Thanks for the comments.

OBT June 27, 2007 5:26 am

Digital Legs,

I'm using IE7 and didn't see the problem with RedHoax. It's hard for me to debug if I don't see what's wrong. What IE are you using? What's the problem? Is the sidebars pushed down to below the blog posts?

Digital Legs June 27, 2007 8:15 am

Hi Elque,

Thanks for your response.
I am using IE6.
Pl. point your IE6 browser to
http://digitallegs.blogspot.com/
If above is not possible,
I have also uploaded screenshot to flickr. Pl. check
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9381598@N07/638823935/

Thanks

OBT June 27, 2007 11:02 am

Oh, that shows the 2nd sidebar is pushed down below the 1st sidebar. It's because in IE6 the width is not wide enough for it to contain both sidebars.

I've fix something about the width. Try to download the template again and see if it works.

Digital Legs June 27, 2007 12:33 pm

I tried the latest template.
I added new page elements as usual.
But Problem still persists. You can check with IE6 and point browser to http://digitallegs.blogspot.com/, if possible.

2nd sidebar drives below the first if you add something to 1st sidebar.

OBT June 27, 2007 2:34 pm

Ok, try this one now. I've just made some more fix. I can't test in IE6 coz I don't have it.

Digital Legs July 02, 2007 3:51 am

It got worse...:-)

Is it possible that we could do this discussion on mail?

I have agilotra as mail id on google.

Hi! Really enjoying your templates, they're simply beautiful plus I like the fact they are so easily customizable.. However, and I can't seem to find any explanation on your tuts, how can I add html between the posts? I want to put ads between my posts, not adsense, affiliate ads, one after each post, please, help is very much appreciated!

Hi, I have downloaded one of your great templates. Many thanks. It looks ok in Firefox and IE7. but not IE6, and as this is the most widely used browser I would like to get it sorted. My site is - www.thaidelights.blogspot.com
Many thanks in advance...Dave.

Dave January 08, 2008 6:50 am

HI AGAIN, I could really use your help. I have spent many days building my site on your template. Which is the best iv'e seen, well done. But still have a problem with ie6! Any ideas? I dont want to ditch the best template iv'e found (and it took me ages) but ie6 is very important as i'm sure you'll agree (hate it myself, i'm a firefox user) Please reply or i'll have wasted soooo much time and will loose a great template.
Thanks in advance, Dave...

OBT January 25, 2008 8:22 pm

Dave,

I just recently realize this IE6 problem. I now have a way of testing them in IE6 using Browsershots.org. Most of my new templates now is okay in IE6 and IE5 (I'll label the templates that're IE6 & IE5-okay).

I won't have time to fix the old ones that are not okay with IE6, but take a look at the new ones. You can always customize everything to how you want them (as I'm sure you've used them by now).

Thanks.

Jen Klingensmith September 11, 2008 9:29 pm

I am wanting to use one of two templates you've created, however when I enter the codes blogger tells me: Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The document type declaration for root element type "html" must end with '>'.
I'm not finding where the error is.

I've just moved back to Blogspot frm Wordpress and have downloaded and uploaded your Sunet template, but have altered the colours.

I'm having a spot of bother with the Posted by, permalink and labels not showing at the bottom of posts, unless I run the mouse over where they are. I tried to sort it out by reverting the widge templates to default and now the date and post title have merged together and I can't see a way of sorting it.

Can you help?

Blog is http://dordognequilter.blogspot.com

Many thanks.

Chris May 11, 2009 12:41 am

Hi, I left a comment on your template page: Morning Drink.

I love this template and I've virtually got the transfer complete. What I'm having problems with is the header once I click the "instead of title and description button", under configure header.

The whole blog moves up so the last post is merged into the header image. I've scoured the internet looking for a solution (and your tutorials) so I'm hoping you can help me fix this one minor glitch.

It would be very much appreciated. Thanks and love your templates.

Chris May 11, 2009 12:46 am

I should also add, I've used my own header image rather than the cup image supplied as an extra download.

My header image appears perfectly, but it already has the name of my blog in the image. I don't need the title and description appearing twice.

In theory, once I click the instead of title and description button, everything should be fine - but my blog merges into the image as if there is no padding or margins supplied if you don't use the title and description.

Chris May 11, 2009 5:06 am

I was messing around with the HTML edit function on Blogger, and may have found the solution to my problem.

Where it says:

#header a img {
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
border: 0;
position: absolute;
top: 0px;
left: 0px;
}

I changed (position:) to relative;

Seems to have lined up my image with my blog again - so I can now select "instead of title and description" when I configure the header.

I hope that makes sense? Please let me know if it's okay to make this minor amendment.
